As a Director of Disaster  Management & Refugees Studies Institute

((Status  of Faculty Dean )  Dr. Musa is responsible for the administration  of the work & the  general supervision  of the academic programme . The activities also include planning, development and consultancy in the area of Disaster Risk Management.

    As a manager  (Status  of Faculty Dean ) Dr. Musa is a permanent  member of the Vice Chancellor  Council and the Academic  Assembly of the University .

 

Dr Awad K Musa , is also the  lecturer on Disaster Risk Management and  Food  Security.

Jan. 1998 – Dec. 1998   :

1995 – Dec. 1997

 Dr. Musa  was  appointed  by the Ministry  of Finance as a manager for the Kheyari Agric. Services  Company   and  as an additional burden  he was  entrusted  for  leading the efforts of the establishment of the Company . As a manager he was  responsible  for planning  , executions  of the activities and the general supervision of the work .     

1994 –May 95

 

As a Minister for Housing & Public Utilities , Dr.Musa has to make the policy of the Ministry & supervise its execution and reflect the performance of the Ministry to the Government Council of the State .He is also responsible for the execution of the National Comprehensive Strategy , irrigation , road construction and building , communication , surveys, town planning .   

 

          

1989 – 1994

Dr.Musa joined the Relief & Rehabilitation Commission as a deputy Commissioner RRC is a body for disaster preparedness , prevention and mitigation . Responsibility involves provision of humanitarian assistance to the needy people who are affected by disaster of war (civil war in the Southern Sudan ) and drought and desertification . The Type of work undertaken included need assessment surveys & evaluation of the results of the surveys , preparation of the appeal . After the donors make their pledges and the assistance is received , this assistance has to be distributed to the needy people and be monitored . All of this work is done jointly with UN agencies , namely UNDP,WFP,UNICEF,FAO,…etc, donors group , NGO's ( national and international ) and the other appropriate government department .

It is worth mentioning that almost all of the humanitarian assistance had been mad possible through the operation lifeline the Sudan (OLS)

Dr.Musa has participated effectively in the preparation of the Appeal document of OLS, namely OLS2 , OLS3 and the subsequent execution   programmes . he also traveled extensively in the Sudan to the different OLS areas ( the South and the West and in the drought – hit areas , Kordofan and Darfur ) , the displaced camps in particular . he also participated in the different meetings (in the Sudan and in Nairobi ) concerning matters related to OLS . he visited the main relief food shipping stations in Kenya (Nairobi,loki) , Uganda .

Since the humanitarian assistance included the provision of relief  food and rehabilitation inputs Ms. Musa , being an agricultural economist , had to supervise the team of RRC involved in project preparation (and follow up of execution ) of the rehabilitation project which are mainly agricultural inputs projects e.g seeds and tools , fisheries , cattle , vaccination , restocking of the herd , regeneration of the plant cover and provision raw materials for handicraft .

It is also worth-mention that RRC  is environment protection body . During his work in RRC  . Dr. Musa was responsible for the handling of the question of environment, particularly the issue of environment deterioration due to disaster of drought and desertification . he participated in the following meeting and conferences related to environment :-

1-      UNEP meeting in Nairobi in 1990, 1991,1992 (The Governing Council meeting).

2-      AMCEN ( African Ministerial Council on Environment in Nairobi and Ghana 1991).

3-      IGAAD in Djibouti 1990,1991.

4-      The Earth Summit conference (UNCED=UN Conference on Environment and Development ) in RIO de Janeiro – Brazil 1992.

Dr.Musa also went on study tours on disaster management outside the Sudan . He visited :-

-          Carnfield    Disaster Management Centre (UK) – February 1992.

-          Disaster Management & Food Security Departments in India – November 1992.

During Feb.1993 to March 1994  . Dr. Musa was heading RRC (commissioner). Policy making , supervising the work of RRC and coordinating between the different parties involved in the business of humanitarian assistance were the main duties .    

1988 – 1989

Dr.Musa was the manager of the Islamic Investment Company (private sector) . he was responsible for making the policy of the investment and supervise its execution . Investment is in the areas of industry , agriculture and services . He attended many conferences and meetings on Islamic Investment inside the Sudan in the Arab Gulf , Egypt and Turkey.

1983 – 1988

As a head department of Financial Resources in (I.I.C) , Dr. Musa was responsible for making the resources available by inviting the public to deposit money in the company . This took place through campaigns launched four times a year . Each campaign necessitated intensive advisement and effective invitation of the public , which sometimes made Dr. Musa to travel outside the Sudan (namely to the Gulf) to introduce the company to the Sudanese expatriates .

The resources have to be invested in carefully studied and perfectly planned projects to ensure profitable investment.  

1981 – 1983

Head of department of Agric . Economics in Rahad agric . project , with overall responsibility for economic planning , project evaluation , economic analysis of the performance of the different crops (cotton, peanuts , sorghum ) , the department has look into the rationality and viability of the agric . operations (manual and mechanized). Types of works undertaken also included the monitoring of the financial situation of the Rahad project .

In this context Dr.Musa  after returning from UK with two master degrees has the honour of designating the exact role of the department of agric. economics in an Agric. project  , like the Rahad .

1977 – 1981

Dr. Musa undertook the job of senior field Inspector . The nature of the work is administrative and also agricultural extension . The inspector has to make sure that the tenants farmers are following instructions and executing the field operations in the right manner and in the right time .  During this period Dr. Musa went on scholarship to do his post graduate studies in the field of Agric . economics. He managed to obtain two  master degrees ,  in Economics  in

 (Leeds University) and in Agric . Economics in  (Reading University).

 

1973 – 1977

Dr. Musa was a prospecting agricultural officer and a development officer as well . the work involved the follow up of the preparatory stages of execution of the Rahad project e.g. excavations, field planning , canalization , removal of wild vegetation's … etc .

Dr. Musa also participated effectively in the social works which included social surveys (demographical studies of the potential tenants  for the projects ) , the selection of the tenants  making the plan for their resettlement in the new different project locations and the execution of the plan .

Dr. Musa also followed up the use of the loans provided by the financers of the Rahad  projects who were :-

-          The world bank

-          USAID

-          The Saudi fund

-          The Kuwaiti fund

-          Arab fund

-          The Sudan government

In fact Rahad Project is a typical Integrated Rural Development Project where all aspects of life for development are made possible (economic, social , services like education , health , security, communication … etc . ) .
